At first, this may seem as if there is no connection! But I promise that after you read today’s blog, you will start thinking differently.
We know that people all over the world often meet up over coffee, tea, drinks, lunch, dinner, tapas (Spanish snack outing) for casual occasions, as well as official meetings.
As the majority of our social and official connections happen over food and drinks, these events are indeed an integral part of our interpersonal and business relationships.
It thus plays one of the vital roles in language learning.
I started realising this after I began organising a couple of food events during my classes. It surprised me to see how easily course participants started connecting with each other on a very casual basis. They experienced a feeling of being themselves and opened up more, comfortable to strike day to day conversations. A certain wall of shyness started to fall down, not only between them, but majorly their connection with me as their teacher. They were able to be more casual and relaxed, yet maintaining a level of mutual respect.
This not only helped to lighten the class environment, but also to start conversations in the language they were learning. Learning came more naturally to them than before.
And this way of learning a language is always more effective.
Of course, not to mention, who wouldn’t want to enjoy a small bite or a coffee while learning?
Food has been an important part of cultures across the globe. When this is used as means to aid language learning, it can actually do wonders.
We humans have our roots to Mother Nature and bringing any component of nature in our proximity can only help us evolve and further develop our skills, just like how we can connect with our higher selves by connecting with nature.
I highly recommend to all of you who are already learning a language, to meet with your class companions, or friends who are also learning a language, over coffee. The ease with which you will enjoy talking in a foreign language will surprise you.
Viel Spaß beim Lernen!
