What’s your definition of winter? For most of us, it comes with flavours of cinnamon, ginger, piping hot brews and somewhere in the distance listening to the jingling of bells. This photo has been so well captured in my mind’s lens. Winters in Germany, especially in south Germany and, to be precise, Munich, are one of the best to be experienced.
How did I associate winter with language learning? Well, I try to associate most of my experiences in Germany or Spain with language learning. It’s a way of associating my passion for languages with life.
Winter and language! Ain’t that fun?
I did understand the importance of winter in their culture. Other seasons are prominent too, but Winter all the more because of Christmas. I understood the new significance of Christmas and its celebration, which commences 4 weeks before 25 December, called die Adventszeit.
Winter is equally crucial with winter sports. I was so surprised to learn about the concept of winter vacation. It was primarily for ice skating, skiing, and snowboarding. And how important are ski slopes, the fresh snow and the sun? It was that typical thing about winter, with temperatures at zero degrees and the sun shining, which is perfect weather to ski.
As a matter of fact, I did try my hand at skiing. Amazing sport! It took me a few hours to get through balancing and get myself sliding on snow, with some aches, but that’s the fun part. Trust me, whenever you get an opportunity, you must try out skiing. It can be adventurous.
I guess I have a lot to share about my winter experiences. Commence penning them down in my upcoming blogs…
Language is not just a book or exam certification, it’s a way of life.
Pretty random lesson, but I’m too hyped up for the cinnamon.
