Well, I’m certainly not talking about coffee machines at Cafes, which at times I feel are so “mechanical” – in the literal sense, that the coffee served may taste good, but it feels so much without coffee soul!
Before the Germans introduced me to their coffee machine culture, I knew only about soulless coffee machines at impressive Cafes. For the Germans, it’s like an integral part of their culture and not just another gadget at home. And an important piece of advice, if you plan on to start working in a German firm or with Germans, you are expected to operate a simple to complex-looking coffee machine and be able to strike an intelligent Smalltalk with coffee as the central theme. In short, your expertise related to not only the coffee machines but also anything from coffee plantations to coffee beans to coffee powder is highly valued. I was really surprised when I saw, families going shopping for coffee beans – well they do consider buying beans and getting powder done by themselves as a better choice over buying packaged powder – and investing reasonable time to decide on which coffee beans should be bought. There are of course machines or grinders at certain stores, where the coffee beans purchased can be immediately ground to powder, with no adulteration. And I was like WOW! Probably the tea culture in India is also not so developed.
I did read a few articles (in German of course) about understanding which machines are good and what factors should influence your purchase. And had interesting talks over coffee! I do feel my knowledge about coffee has become better, but definitively not yet worth a boast!
And yes, before I go for my coffee break, you should try coffee with a piece of delicious cheesecake, or any pastry of your choice. It is simply blissful. By default, coffee served is sugarless and when coupled with rich pastry, gives a perfectly balanced out soulful taste.
Enjoy your cup of coffee!
